Creative: Having or showing an ability to make new things or think of new ideas.
Creativity: Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed. The ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations.
Did you know we were all born to be creative and we actually are creative everyday? There is this false perception that being creative means you have to be some kind of starving, temperamental artist. The truth is that every day we wake up we are creating things. We are creating our choice of wardrobe, maybe our children’s wardrobes, our hair, our meals, what our home looks like, what our job looks like, maybe what our desk at work or home is decorated with, what kind of car we drive, what kind of pets we have, what we buy at the store. These are all things that we bring into creation every day without realizing it. Everything you do in a day is a reflection of the day you created. So in a sense we are all artists already.
So how can you bring such creativity into a professional existence? Well you have to start with YOU. What do you like? What are your favorite colors? What are your favorite foods? What are your favorite animals? What inspires you?
Did you notice how the definitions above focus on creating new things and ideas. YOU. You are creating these new meaningful, valuable ideas. So how would you do that? What are the most important tools you need to create a new idea? 1. Your Brain. 2. Your imagination. Cameras, paint brushes, pencils, sewing machines, pens, keyboards… these things are not even listed under the definition.
Yesterday I talked about not going crazy over getting the latest greatest equipment when your starting out in your business. Those material objects are not as important as what you are going to do with them. What you are going to create with them for your clients. Yes your clients are paying you for you not for your gadgets. So any tools, equipment, and supplies that you purchase to use in your business make sure you are purchasing them to use as tools to enhance your own creativity. Be Yourself.
Remember your creative self already exists. Just give it some time, space, and attention to grow and incorporate the best YOU in your work that you can.
“Creativity is seeing something that doesn’t exist already.” Michele Shea.
“Why should we all use our creative power? Because there is nothing that makes people so generous, joyful, lively, bold, and compassionate, so indifferent to fighting and the accumulation of objects and money.” Brenda Ueland.
